The addictive RTS Heroes of Newerth joins the free-to-play brigade, with a host of paid and free subscription options.
Free-to-play appears to be the new black. Many MMOs, including Lord of the Rings Online and Age of Conan have done it, Team Fortress 2 went that way, and recently League of Legends followed suit. Now, the intensely popular - and intensely addictive - RTS Heroes of Newerth has made the free-to-play switch as well.
"S2 has a serious level of commitment to our players to continuously improve both the game and their experience. With the new account types and match-making standards in place, both novice and existing players will benefit from the upgraded structure," said S2 Games CEO and co-founder Marc DeForest in a statement.
If you're curious, you can find more details here, and oldtimers shouldn't worry too much about the zerg rush of new signups. Existing account holders will get Legacy account status, meaning they will be able to play free for life, and get seperate servers to play on.
