We're all waiting for Battlefield 3, but are all excited about the inevitable tie-in novel? When you discover who's writing it... maybe.
If there's one thing in gaming that we're really remarkably lukewarm about it, it's game tie-in novels. I mean, when you're waiting for a kick-arse game release, especially one as anticipated as Battlefield 3, do you really care who's writing the at-best tepid novelisation?
Well, you might. In this case, it's bestselling author and SAS veteran Andy McNab. And some dude called Peter Grimsdale, who's got a couple of novels and may well be doing the bulk of the heavy lifting.
Andy McNab is bit of a dude. He survived the infamous Bravo Two Zero patrol mission. He's written a mess of modern thrillers, as well as the book of the real events. So he certainly knows a thing or two about modern military and fiction.
That said, we're read one of his books.
We didn't finish it. You be the judge. But so we end on an up note, have a quote from the release:
Like the game, the novel is charged with documentary intensity, high octane action, and ripped-from-the-headlines incursions. Battlefield 3: The Russian paints a picture of a soldier struggling to do whatever it takes to keep himself, and his platoon, alive.
Boo-rah?
