The first Call of Duty XP community event is packed with LANs, paintball and exclusive peaks at Elite and Modern Warfare 3.
Blizzard has Blizzcon, id has Quakecon. Now, Activision's making the most of a dedicated community of fans and its first ever Call of Duty XP event is looking like one big, giant and rather loud ball of fun. Yes, even we're thinking it's going to be a pretty awesome event.
Taking place on September 2 and 3 at the 'Call of Duty compound' in Los Angeles (in other words, the Hercules Campus, where Howard Hughes built a certain giant plane), the show will be full of previews, events, gaming and celebrity highlights.
There'll be a 32-player elimination match of Modern Warfare 3, with players battling it out now (in Black Ops) for slots at the table - and a share of the $1 million prize. Modern Warfare will be on show for all attendees, in fact, and they'll even go home with a download code for when the game's released. There'll also be a lot of news on the new Elite service for CoD.
However, what's got even us excited is the lifesize Scrapyard paintball arena. That sounds like too much fun. There'll even be a live version of The Pit training level from Modern Warfare 2. For those things alone, we'd love to attend.
And the armory and gallery of weapons and art doesn't sound too bad either. For more deets over an event most of us will likely never make it to, check out the official site.
