Battlefield 3 on PC to tie all players into the Origin platform

Electronic Arts is making a big move against Steam with the news that all version of Battlefield 3 will require the Origin service.

That cat's now well and truly out of the bag for the upcoming Battlefield 3 on PC. No matter what version you buy, digital or retail, you're going to need to have an account on EA's Origin service to play online.

Battlefield 3's global community manager confirmed the news on Twitter over the weekend.

What's more, there's also a second service required by the game to actually launch matches. It's called Battlelog, a 'social network'-like matchmaking system.

Man, I'm already dreading the launch period of this game. Hopefully EA and DICE have learned from the early and rather buggy days of the Bad Company 2 launch.
