At long last, dedicated servers make their return in the upcoming Modern Warfare 3. Laggy clients be-gone!
We pretty much hate Twitter. Call us a cranky old man, but all you kids with your 140-character tweets can just get off my social networking lawn. However, it sometimes does have its uses, like when Glen Schofield from Sledgehammer games recently Tweeted some news sure to warm the cockles of PC gamers' hearts everywhere.
"Free dedicated servers for #MW3 PC confirmed! We are excited to be bringing this back to Modern Warfare."
This has long been a serious bugbear for the series, and the unreliable host-based server structure of Modern Warfare 2 made long fragging sessions singularly frustrating. Combined with an abusive community likely to insult and abuse any poor sap who the game decided had a fast enough connection despite plainly not having one, it pretty much turned us off that game right fast.
Now, with BF3 releasing around the same time, I'm betting dedicated servers aren't quite going to be enough (despite grumbles about EA's distribution of the game), but this is good news regardless for the PC gaming community.
