Essential linkage: It can be argued we're a in a golden age of gaming, and rightly so - but why are people so damn unhappy about it?
We just had an interesting little reality check over at Ars Technica. As part of the sites US Labor Day coverage, its writers are putting together some great opinion pieces, and one in particular is totally cracking, and essential reading.
'In gaming, everything is amazing and no one is happy' pretty much does what it says on the tin. It's great to see someone addressing the often heavily negative world of gaming.
We used to claim we wanted more people to game, but now we scoff at those who play "casual" games as if planting a garden strategically is somehow beneath those of us who pretend to be an elf... strategically. We are sitting around aDungeons and Dragons table and complaining about people who read Twilight.
The writer even gets his cranka on about game writers (his own good self included), and makes some very valid points.
Give it a read. It's good stuff.
