Bethesda announces RAGE PC system specs

Find out if your PC is going to have what it takes (especially in terms of storage) to play id's upcoming shooter, RAGE.

Remember when a new shooter from a company like id meant a new cycle of upgrades for your PC? Well, forget about that for RAGE, as according to a post on the Bethesda Blog the specs for the game are positively low-end. Here's the deets:

Minimum:

  • OS: Win XP SP3, Vista, Win 7
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo or Equivalent AMD
  • Memory: 2GB
  • Hard Disk Space: 25GB
  • Video Card: GeForce 8800, Radeon HD 4200

Recommended:

  • OS: Win XP SP3, Vista, Win 7
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad or Equivalent AMD
  • Memory: 4GB
  • Hard Disk Space: 25GB
  • Video Card: GeForce 9800 GTX, ATI Radeon HD 5550

That's... not much. According to our own surveys, that means pretty much every Atomican machine out there can run this at recommended settings. Huh.

We've only seen the code running on console so far, over two E3s, and while it does look good, we were really hoping for more on the PC front. Perhaps id's coding is getting tighter? It certainly seems as though the game's going to feature some epic textures, as that's about the only thing we can see justifying requiring 25GB of HDD space. This is possibly the biggest install footprint for any game we've ever heard of.

And, since RAGE Steam integrated, we're really hoping that hard copies of the game are not going to require that much to then be downloaded. Perhaps it's not so much a hardware upgrade that's going to be needed, but a download cap upgrade?
