In what is becoming a worrying trend for Australian PC gamers, Batman: Arkham City jumped from $49.95 to $99.95 overnight.
If you pre-ordered Batman: Arkham City in the past few weeks on Steam it is time to feel a little smug. Australian pricing for Arkham jumped from $US 49.95 to $US 99.95 overnight, which plays into a disturbing trend of Steam pricing rising higher and higher commensurate with the return of the PC as a viable gaming platform.
We contacted the game's publisher, Warner Interactive and they replied with the following statement - "Steam should always reflect the Australian market retail price, if it was lower before, then it was because it hadn’t been localised in time. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes to Australian gamers."
Does this mean the end to generally cheaper game pricing on Steam? Batman is but one of a number of titles from various publishers to have its price hiked in the past week, joining the Warner published Lord of the Rings: War in the North as well as Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed: Revelations and Rockstar's LA Noire in the hiked price stakes.
