The rumour has become fact - Blizzard may be entering the console market with Diablo III. What can go wrong? UPDATED: Blizzard's official response.
What else is there to say - Diablo is going to get a console release.
The cat was let out of the bag on Twitter, with the following statement from a Blizzard community manager: "Yup. Josh Mosqueira is lead designer for the Diablo console project."
There's still no date, and certainly no knows on how Blizzard's going to approach the platform. It's easy for PC gamers to feel nervous, with games like Skyrim definitely the worse for being ported from console. However, given that the Diablo III beta is going just fine on PC, and that the game is obviously working just fine in terms of controls and navigation, we expect this will actually be a port TO console.
Of course, all this is assuming the tweet can even be taken seriously. Blizzard's official comment suggests that we might be jumping the gun.
Bashiok’s response on Twitter was intended as a confirmation that we’re actively exploring the possibility of developing a console version of Diablo III, as we’ve mentioned in the past. This is not a confirmation that Diablo III is coming to any console platform. Our focus right now is on finishing the PC/Mac version of Diablo III and making sure it’s a worthwhile successor to the Diablo series.
Anyhoo, there you have it - you may or may not be able to shatter your console controller with incessant clicking instead of your mouse, if that's the way you may or may not roll.
