It's just gotten cheaper to play RIFT, and it's even cheaper still if you really commit to the game...
Trion's popular MMO, RIFT, has just had bit of shakeup in its subscriptions plans. Multi-month models have just gotten a lot cheaper, and now include a bonus 30 days of free game time to boot. It's good news for fans folks curious to give the game a go, but we're also wondering if this is a response to a growing move toward free-to-play MMOs.
The free-to-play revolution is sweeping the MMO world. Ditching a subscription model of income and opting for a more micro-transaction based system, where players can spend what they want for the elements of a game that are most meaningful to them, is helping a lot of games find new success. It's boosted player numbers in Lord of the Rings Online, kept Age of Conan alive, and is generally showing that you don't need to match WoW's $14.95 a month to make some dough.
It looks like RIFT is a ways from going that far just yet, but it's certainly much cheaper now. Here's the break down of the multi-month plans:
3-Month – $12.99 per month 6-Month – $10.99 per month Annual – $8.25 per month
