With Mass Effect 3 just around the corner, Electronic Arts has just announced some distribution details - and yes, you will need Origins.
Mass Effect 3 is coming this year - this quarter in fact. And, while for some of us this means a certain amount of anticipation, we're guessing that recent news is also going to cause a certain amount of grumbling.
The news is this: Mass Effect 3 will, like Battlefield 3 before it, not be available through Steam. And, yes, PC gamers will need the Origin service to play the game, both physical and digital versions, both single and multiplayer.
Bioware made the announcement via its forums over the weekend, and lo, there were many cries of 'pre-order cancelled' - nearly 200-pages worth, in fact. It's hardly a surprise though, and as one of the people madly anticipating the game, it's not personally a deal breaker in any way. Despite all the fear over Origin as a piece of spyware, I've not had any issues with the service, though, yeah, it is annoying having to have this as well as Steam.
You can see the full post here - what are your thoughts, Mass Effect fans? Is this a gamebreaker?
