Guitar Hero 2 release date announced!

Summon the groupies and throw the TV out the hotel window -- it's Guitar Hero 2 on the Xbox 360!

Guitar Hero 2 is a favourite around the office. A short time ago, Bill wandered over to my desk to tell me he was bored, and ask if I wanted to jam. I was busy preparing all the latest info on the Xbox 360 version for you, which is unfortunate for him, but does keep him away from the pub. Oh, wait -- he’s just asked which one we’re going to for lunch.

As anyone who subscribes to our newsletter would already know, the release date for the Xbox 360 version is the 4th of April. All the PlayStation 2 version’s tracks are included, along with some Xbox 360 exclusives. And what are they?

The covers are…
Billion Dollar Babies -- Alice Cooper
Hush -- Deep Purple
Life Wasted -- Pearl Jam
Rock N Roll Hoochie Koo -- Rick Derringer
The Trooper -- Iron Maiden
Salvation -- Rancid

The studio recordings are…
Dead! -- My Chemical Romance
Possum Kingdom -- Toadies

We don’t know if these unlockable tracks are covers or not, but they are…
Drink Up -- Ounce of Self - 1st Unlock
Kicked to the Curb -- Noble Rot - 2nd Unlock

Extra downloadable songs will be made available through Xbox Live. To kickstart the downloadable set list, twelve of them will be available at launch. Xbox Live leaderboards will be supported, as will HD graphics. The 360 guitar controller will be known as the X-plorer and is going to be based on a Gibson.

We got an official “no comment” when we asked about the possibility of a wireless 360 guitar, and there’s still no news on that damned telephone (RJ11) jack at the base of the controller. We’re praying to the Gods (in our case Geddy Lee, Frank Zappa and Angus Young) that it’s for a pedal.
