I’m in the mood for telling anyone who will listen that Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (GRAW) is flippin amazing.
That means you, dear reader. Yep, it’s an Xbox 360 game, and nope, you most likely don’t have a 360 yet, unless it’s an import. So really, fat lot of good my ranting’s going to do.
But rant I will, because the 360 launch is just around the corner, and if you’re wavering, I can tell you that GRAW is one heck of a good reason to get the 360 early, or wait a bit until it’s out on other platforms
It’s art. It’s one of the best games I’ve ever played. Ubisoft held back on making it a launch title so they could polish it, and gods be praised for that.
As a tactical squad-based game it nails it. Normally controlling teams and vehicles is fiddly, not with GRAW. You can execute all sorts of fancy maneuvers easily. You really do feel like you’re doing it. The ambience is way cool, helping that along. My favourite is the grunt that asserts “I love this country!” Every so often. Cool, man.
I played on Live last night, with Bennett kicking my arse. This game is just a gem online with huge and wonderful maps and the AI we played was devilishly convincing.
If you’re a lucky sod with a high-def TV then this is gold. The 360’s antialiasing power is superb and the sheer amount of scenery it pumps out is gobsmacking.
But of course, Oblivion is also just around the corner too. The next couple of weeks are shaping up to be another mini-golden era in gaming.
