The trusty old T.R.U.E. is back in black
The Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme cooler (also known as the TRUE) has been a mainstay for the enthusiast community, providing exceptional cooling performance at very little cost. When we checked it out last year, it walked away with a
”> 9.5 out of 10.
So when the great people at Thermalright sent us this brand-spanking new revision of that same cooler, we had to grab some pics of it straight away.
The cooler retains the imposing height of its predecessor, as well as the six heatpipes bent into a ’U’ shape to essentially give twelve paths for heat to travel.
The base and mounting system is also identical, but sadly does not come in the black colour that the rest of the cooler is adorned with.
The finish on the base is perfectly flat, but machining grooves are easily visible. This was done purposefully, the theory being that the grooves can fill with thermal paste and improve heat transfer.
However the real reason that you’d get this cooler isn’t for the base, it’s for this:
This is what you’ll be paying a bit extra for – a black, imposing top plate that is easily visible in all windowed cases. It’s a great way to show off your rig to others at LANs. You can even send them pics. You know, to prove it happened.
We think it looks bloody beautiful, and is a great choice for anyone doing a themed build, or even someone who wants a slightly different take on the usual silver.

Just installed the Extreme black with 2 fans.Talk about a close fit. They could have supplied the bottom plate for the AMD2+ CPU. All in all I real nice bit of gear.
