Rude Gameware's Fierce Mouse: good, but not great
It's a mouse, Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it...
When a radical new mouse design crosses our desks, you just know we're nerdy enough to be damn excited. When it claims to be great for gaming - as well as CAD, 3D work and similar apps - you know we're doubly interested.
The Orbita mouse is the latest rodent to come out of the dedicated mousing labs at Cyber Sport. It's a curious little thing, round and white - kind of like the old iMac mice - and when you actually pick it up it's... all soft and pliable.
That's thanks to a flexible rubber sheath (just typing that makes me feel odd), and it rests on smooth teflon feet that are set into a ring that in turn rests on a series of ball bearings. The idea is that you can swivel the mouse in place by way of scrolling. The mouse is ringed by buttons under the rubber skirt (that sounds wrong too), and has a button for scrolling on top, and what Cyber Sport calls 'push and squeeze' buttons.
This mouse is simply a walking innuendo.
Anyway, check out our gallery for pics, and be sure to keep an eye out for it in an upcoming issue.

Looks quite interesting.
On a different note though, sorry to be a nitpicky wanker, but the quality of those photos is shocking. At least one horribly out of focus shot, and an overall unpleasant/unrevealing look. If these are shots supplied to you guys, then the people who supplied them really aren't too keen on trying to impress.

Lordbug, the subject was very tricky to get in focus for some reason. It also didn't behave well for the lighting. Sorry that it wasn't up to the usual standards, but I was too busy playing with the mouse and Nehalem to devote any more time to it.

That's fair enough, I understand the attraction of playtime too well :P
Curiosity is piqued though - What camera are you using for the shots?

We use a Canon G9, and it usually delivers really good shots.
In this case, however, I believe it was the white background of our photo table and the white mouse making things difficult.
I might try to take some other shots later, and manually focus - see if that makes a difference. But we're not pro photographers :) Regardless, I think most of the stuff we do is pretty good for First Look material.

Could you mug the guy who took the underwater shots of the case and run off with his equipment? ;P

And have him never work for us again?! For shame!
Seriously, though, good hardware is all well and fine, but without the serious photographic skills...

That's a pretty funky mouse.
I can see how it would be very handy for 3d design.

Maybe you could send us all a free one instead of good pics. I'm sure I would get a better idea of it that way... Yesy yes, that will work.

All day at work i spend a large amount of time scrolling through CT images on a computer. My scroll wheel fingers get very sore from RSI. I would like to give one of these a try. Being able to squeeze the whole mouse instead of clicking with my index finger would also help more sore fingers. I want one. How much do we think they will be? P.S it looks like this is an aussie invention?

Thanks for all the comments guys. We at Cyber Sport are the developers of the Orbita mouse.
For better pictures, please check out our site at www.orbitamouse.com
To answer some of your questions, the mouse measures 7.5cm in diameter and is +/- 3cm tall.
Being the manufacturers of the Cyber Snipa range of gaming products, I would say the Orbita would be better suited to Real Time Strategy games rather than FPS games.
For any 3D environment, this mouse offers a fantastic way to seamlessly navigate through virtual spaces. It avoids all those jerky motions you get from repetitively rolling your scroll wheel.
Anyhow, I think this product is going to rock (I hope :)) If you have any questions, pop us a mail at info@cyberesport.com

Great looking mouse, shocking photos[1]. With the way the scrolling looks to work I can see what they mean about RTS vs FPS in actual usefulness.
Look forward to the full review.
[1] btw:
You guys should ask for lessons from Dan Rutter in taking product shots. He's got a nifty light box that looks pretty simple to make and always ends up with great pics.
