Verdict:
The penultimate energy drink to wake you up when you need it - and keep you there for hours. Atomic's new drink of choice.

A drink so strong it can be smelt(felt?) across the other side of a room!

I've been keeping my eyes peeled for energy drinks on the cold shelves of the local shop, and first had a look at a can of LOL - now it's canned chilli.

In the usual 250mL can is a fruit-juice based energy drink just like the LOL, but this one actually has 80mg of caffeine too, just the same as your average can of Red Bull or V.

It's made by Spring Valley, but even their product page seems to deny its existence (our guess is that it's too hardcore to put there).

This is one drink that isn't afraid to poke fun at you either, proclaiming on the very front of the can:

Look at you, you're so mentally dishevelled you're reading the tiny, pointless blurb on the front of an energy drink can. Luckily, we can help.

I grabbed the Blood Orange & Chilli flavour (yes, it has real chilli juice in here) to test simply due to the fact that there isn't any other chilli drink out there we've seen yet!

The first sip gave a very strong impression of blood orange (it actually is a fruit!), and was quite carbonated. It was nice and smooth, light and sweet without any hint of chilli - until I swallowed.

A warm tingle at the back of my throat and the tip of my tongue was all that I noticed at first, so I kept on drinking. And then, it hit me.

It's great stuff.

Gotta love liquid chili.

And whoever doesn't like blood orange isn't really alive.

Energy drinks never do anything for me, so I'll have to give this one a try to see if actually works. Having said that I do consume 5+ cups of strong black coffee every day...

Khir, there's very little off the supermarket shelf stuff that can appease our chili-lust.

Khir, just get some capsaicin powder and add to taste :P

greycat, I've seen the other ones at the airport there, so they've quite possibly just rocked up. Check out the newsagent-ey places.

Hmmm.. well the ingredients are different here in WA. No Chilli listed just 'Natural Flavours'. I checked with Spring Valley:

"...The chilli flavour is a natural flavour derived from capsicum (chilli is a member of the capsicum family)."

This indicates that it is probably pure Capsaicin. Not really Chilli flavour.

Do you guys still have cans over there with 'Chilli Extract' listed??
