Computex Wrapup: Silverstone shows off their sequels to the popular Raven and Fortress cases.

SilverStone have long been known for their highend aluminium cases such as the Fortress FT01, and lately more so for their unique upended ATX case design seen in the original Raven RV01 case.

Along with every other vendor attending Computex this year, SilverStone had a lot to offer - bringing out an enhanced version of the Raven called the RV02.

It retains the same orientation as the original case, but packs in a new sleeker look on all sides as well as a complete internal redesign of both the cooling and the component installation.

Three large 180mm fans lie along the bottom of the case, bringing in fresh air past a filter and blowing directly upwards at the hot components. One 120mm fan is used at the top for exhaust, and plenty of ventilation is cut to let the heat escape quickly.

The PSU also mounts vertically in the same orientation as expansion cards, and has its own filtered intake at what would typically be the back of the case. SilverStone has also raised the roof of the RV02 to allow plenty of room for cables; even if you're using a DVI-VGA adapter.

Their decidedly less flashy Fortress FT02 case is still very impressive in this iteration, using the same piece of unibody aluminium to form a U shape; providing strength as well as some sexy curves. Inside it's much the same as the RV02, though comes with hotswappable HDD caddies in place of the Raven's more standard bays.

Each case has a good mix of features, and we're looking forwards to getting them in our Labs for full testing - until then jump into the gallery to start looking at the Raven RV02 ( or jump to the Fortress FT02 in the gallery by clicking here).

Do you think these redesigns are an improvement on the originals? Post below with your opinion!

im not a fan of the rv02 looks but the length and internal features are certainly interesting. I think i prefer the look of the new Fortress the 90 degree motherboard mounting is something i really dig

I have a RV01 and like the looks of the RV01 more but i like the layout/internal design more in the RV02. Not by that much.

Ive never been a big fan of Silverstone's largely ugly cases, but it appears times have changed. I cant say I dislike any of these. Quite inovative to, I would certainly consider one of these in my next purchase.

An actual review by someone outside of Computex. Must be the first reviewer to receive it from Silverstone. See it at- http://ianho.blogspot.com/2009/07/silverstone-rv02-review.html

Wow I Like the RV02... nice! I love lower profile cases, and that hits the mark. I wonder if there's a mATX version of that vertical style design?

NO they fucken haven't you still can not close down the lid when using an DVI to VGA dongle if you even tried that you'd have known and another thing their QC in the China plant Sucks arse the case i bought ( rv02b-w ) had a duff HDD LED and i needed to reverse the power and reset switches to get them to work properly maybe in china power switch means reset and vice versa who the fuck knows but for a case that cost me $269.00NZD i expected much better quality shit even my crap old iCute 0509ULA-4G-BS was better made and it only cost me 70 bucks and lasted me 6yrs

lol rage much man?

Every plant has the odd CQ issue, and having built a lot of rigs with Silverstone cases, I don't think they're notably bad - in fact of late they're pretty well made.

Still, BL on your experiences, I do empathise, there's nothing quite as disappointing as getting borked hardware (especially when returning it would mean a rebuild), but @ the end of the day, it's not a bad value case.
