Atomic sneaks a peek at the next-gen midrange chip for Intel - the LGA1156 Core i7.
The performance hill was claimed by Intel with the introduction of their Core 2 series of processors, being at once both wonderfully overclockable and having performance to cost much better than their competition at the time.
They secured that reign last year with their speedy Core i7 series of processors, and when we had a look back then the performance was incredible.
Now they've got an offering that doesn't target the high-end, but rather the midrange systems - this means that Core i5 is for pretty much everyone who isn't rolling in cash.
The Core i5/i7 LGA1156 launch has been a funny one, with so much information released that you could've pieced it together yourself with enough legwork!
We'll let the following pictures and results for the Core i7 870 speak for themselves for now, but you can expect a huge writeup in Issue 105 as we take Lynnfield and push it to the limits of the architecture.
