We look at what might be the most flawless case, ever.

There are thousands of different cases out in the world today, each functionally similar but radically varied in the features that they boast.

From the original generic beige boxes that might have offered a single (loud!) 80mm fan, to the colourful windowed LED-packed fan-filled cases we have now, there have been many ideas that pushed the scene along.

Granted, some were from the modding scene, but quite a few of them stemmed from Lian Li - a company that has pushed the boundaries of case quality for some time now.

They're unique in their all-aluminium construction, excellent vibration dampening and svelte looks, but the PC-X1000 (or X1000B) takes Lian Li's history to new heights.

Everything about the X1000 is as close to perfect as we could hope for; the five 140mm fans provide great cooling, expansion cards have plenty of room (and are even reinforced), everything is filtered, everything is vibration dampened and everything that can be done well is done toolessly.

In fact the only gripe we have with this case is the tendency to fingerprint, and while that isn't a game-breaker it does mean the case will need a wipe after you've handled it.

We'll reserve final praise for this case for an upcoming review in the magazine, but until then jump into the gallery of pics and feel free to post below with your thoughts on the X1000 - can this truly be the best case ever?

I still think the "toaster" idea: putting the ODD flat against the front of the case is cooler. However, for a full-tower case this one looks awesome!

Frucking slick... I love it!
If I could change it any, it'd be to make it a little smaller (vertically, say by one 140mm fan) - maybe that's coming in a slightly different variant? Maybe it already exists.

another brilliant effort from lian li. some point that i took away:

1. love their three chamber system here - but could be a problem if you don't have sufficiently lengthy cables. nice to see long sata cables as an inclusion coz they are a b!tch to find in my experience

2. the positioning of the fans on this thing is perfect - absolutely spot on. especially the flow from front to back around the cpu/hsf position.

3. for a case of this calibre, i can't believe lian li are still sticking with the cheap plasticky flap to cover the connectors. really expected more - like the flap on the raven rv01

4. longer psus look like they may have issues - especially if they are modular.

5. would love to see one with an anodised black interior and a window cover!!

great job lian li

Very nice case, but damn that is tall. At 680mm it won't fit under a conventional office desk and still allow access to the top panel connectors, and at that height it's getting impractically tall to sit on top of the desk and still be able to reach top panel connectors.

Why is it so tall?
They should make wider cases rather than tall cases like this.

ZOMG that is a huge case!
I do wish that they would make the interior black as well.

Like always they are stylish but if you put a window in them they lose it cause of the metal.

black interior? it will cost you around $60 for the powdercoating experience. the experts advise me against annodising unless i want to drill out the 50 million rivets that lian li love to use in their cases. of course, there's always diy. but either way you will need spend hours stripping it down first.
