Corsair's massive 800D case boasts a flurry of features for a first showing, but are they worth the price?

Corsair have long been the manufacturer of enthusiast-grade memory kits, more recently expanding into the PSU market and in both of those arenas they're one of the biggest and best players around - now they've set their sights on the case market.

Called the 800D, their first case slots into their Obsidian Series which as far as can be determined just seems to mean "more black than batman at night", with similar amounts of badass seeping out of every sharp angular line and smooth curve.

It's a pretty strange mix of design ethos, but the front all-aluminium fascia mixed with sturdy steel construction give the 800D a heft that lets you know it's not a case to be messed with; exactly the kind of place you'd hide if a nuke was coming (assuming you were small enough to fit).

There's a heap of cool features like hotswappable HDD bays and an absolutely crazy cable management system, but the phenomenally high price tag of $400 precludes this case from any budget tag.

Head into the gallery of pics to see all of them in their spectacular usefulness, and check out an upcoming Issue of Atomic to see if they're worth the asking fee.

Fantastic looking case, but the price is a bit of a sore point. I guess if you were already looking at a high end Lian Li you could consider this as an alternative.

I heard this was running up for case of the year. But I don't know who's hosting the awards.

If I were considering a case this big, $400 would not be a problem. Especially considering the very desirable features and construction.

Wish there was a trade in place for computer cases as i would gladly trade in my TJ10 ESA for one of these.

Yeah I love the look of the X1000B but its a little over the top a feel. This is perfect Im either getting this or the GF like the Silverstone raven RV01 she thinks is sexy and I think its awsome too.

That is a seriously awesome case, with some very cool design innovations.

Seems to be a couple of strange things though which considering the price, would make me wait for a Mk2.

Would love that for my main studio rig though!

I've been looking for "The" case for ages, and this is definately it. I can't wait to get one.

The X1000B is far to complex a case.
