Scythe's Big Shuriken is one of the smallest heatsinks we've ever seen.

With a name like Big Shuriken you'd half-expect Scythe's newest heatsink to be a circular disc of death (that also happens to do a decent job at cooling, when it's not busy being used by ninjas).

However the Big Shuriken doesn't quite manage to accomplish this ninja-tool image, though what it achieves is perhaps more exciting.

It packs in four heatpipes that are bent over double to provide a whopping eight paths for heat to travel, a nice shiny nickel base and plenty of aluminium fins that are cooled by a slim 120x12mm fan.

Impressively the Big Shuriken is anything but at a height of only 58mm - barely higher than a typical Intel reference heatsink!

It's got support for every socket you'd ever want to use (and some you'll never need), covering Intel Socket 478, LGA775/1156/1366 as well as AMD Socket 754/939/940 and AM2/AM2+/AM3.

While the performance of this heatsink remains to be seen in testing, head into the gallery of pics to see the Shuriken in more detail, and keep checking the mag for a full review in an upcoming Issue.

Tempted to get it for my HTPC. But if it doesn't do what I want it to, ill end up throwing it at door-to-door salesmen :P "SHURIKEN!" (wha-cheow!)

Surprisingly good-looking HS/F. Never liked the tower-design: I keep imagining it ripping my MOBO apart from the weight.

I just bought one of thewse, funnily enough. I haven't actually tested it yet (still waiting on the rest of my computer), but I did a dry install to check clearances and stuff (i.e. no cpu in socket).

The first thing I noticed (on my ga-p55m-ud4, an mATX board) was that the pushpins are incredibly difficult to use. There's about 2cm between the top of the pins and the fins above, however you can get around this with a flathead screwdriver.

The second thing I noticed was that the heatpipes stick out enough that you can only orient it with them pointing towards the RAM slots, and it rules out any heatsinks that extend past the top of the modules for the far left slot, and my ripjaws will only just fit in the second-most left slot.

Despite this, however, it looks damn awesome! And should be better than the stock HSF.

I'm using the normal Scythe Shurikens in my HTPC builds, and can confirm they are good at the job. The fans are quiet too. Will be interested in checking out the big version.
