We look at ASUS' new H57-based motherboard.

We've had the P55 Express chipset for quite some time now, which mates with the LGA1156 socket and the corresponding processor, but the time has come for it to be replaced.

The latest CPU launch from Intel brought around a 32nm process shrink in the form of Westmere; and a new H57 Express chipset was also launched to be paired with the mainstream processor, Clarkdale.

Clarkdale, and the H57, is unique due to a built-in graphics processing core; something that the H57 is compatible with, allowing up to two external displays without a discrete graphics core.

While this isn't exciting news in terms of performance, it does give us a new motherboard from ASUS to play with - the P7H57D-V Evo.

It's an interesting board that includes all the high-end features you'd be after in a board, though at a price of roughly $285 it's not a cheap choice.

Head into the gallery of pictures to see more of this board, and check out our full opinion in an upcoming Issue of Atomic.

Hmm. I was about to post that this board doesn't have all the high tech tricks such as USB3 and 6g SATA, but it appears that Asus have actually released a board with all of these on board. If the drop price really is ~$285, then it might not be such an unwise, expensive choice at all...

Sad day for me as a gigabyte fanboy, the GA-H57M-USB3m the only H57 based board on Gigabyte's site doesn't support SATA3, but does have an NEC USB3 chip. Com'on Gigabyte, step it up before I have to upgrade next!

I never said it was unwise, merely that it wasn't cheap :)

When is it wise to spend money you don't need to? :D

I can't decide people's needs for them :P

If I could, everyone would be running 6-core Westmere processors overclocked under watercooling with crossfired 5970's, PCIe SSD cards in RAID and 24GB of RAM. With a 15" LCD screen.
