Verdict:
An interesting alternative, but it's got a weird flavour.

---

The can cracked open with a slight hissing noise, releasing a wave of what smelt like the caramel topping you'd get from McDonalds - strange, because it smelt...warm. It smelled delicious, making my mouth water with it's lusty, bold flavouring. Before taking my first sip of the drink, I peered into the murky depths of the can - the drink actually looks like a mix of coffee and lemon juice. Weird.

Still, the first sip was impressive. Impressive in that it tasted absolutely nothing like coffee and citrus, instead tasting exactly like a Jägerbomb minus the alcohol. The taste was so convincing that I almost swore I could hear too-loud dance music, but as it turns out, Jägerbombs aren't my most favourite drink in the entire world. Unless you're chugging the entire thing in one go, sipping on one isn't the most fun you'll ever have.

The Jägerbomb-eyness kept up through the next few mouthfuls, though it was finally followed by an aftertaste of coffee. However, this coffee tasted like it'd been strained through the toe hairs of a Hobbit; slightly greasy, and wholly unsatisfying. It also doesn't really work with this much sugar, and the cheap softdrink taste didn't help matters much either.

V Black has a texture like a non-stick frying pan, coating the inside of my mouth with what felt like a series of fuzzy growths that made swallowing as enjoyable as rowing in an upturned umbrella down the river Styx. Ok, so maybe it wasn't as hellish as that, but it certainly wasn't the smoothest I've ever tried.

After this odd taste and strange texture, I didn't expect that much from V Black, but I was pleasantly surprised at the buzz that the can granted. It was nowhere near as powerful (nor insane) as the bottle of NOS, but the extra Taurine worked wonders in slamming my brain against my skull just enough to wake it up fully

The taste might not be my most favourite out there, and it might not be the most powerful drink I've ever drunk, but a can of V Black is definitely just the thing when a serious energy boost is needed. Make sure you jump into the gallery of pics to see more of the can, and give this drink a go the next time you're feeling adventurous.

I recenlty gave up all soft/energy drink...It's a sad life of being tired all the time even though I am sleeping more and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

From memory Mother was the best and thats the way I will remember it.

Justin:

I agree on your taste buds, it is a great drink. I love the coffee flavor mix with a bit of sourness. I'm drinking one right now :D

qwakqwak, yeah, I try to avoid them if I don't need them. Turns out that there's only so many hours in the day sometimes!

alex, thiiiiiis much. Does that help? You might need to use your imagination a little :D

index, that explains a lot! Unfortunately my taste buds very rarely agree with me, which leads to awkward situations.

cheozuka, oh nice. I actually hated Mother Surge :P To each their own though.

I quite enjoyed this one. Although at first it tasted a bit like, that vix vapor rub stuff for colds, or deep-heat cream ect.

Was still refreshing and energizing at the same time!

alex - bugger all. 78mg of caffeine. About the same as a cup of instant coffee. Taurine, Gurana etc. do nothing as far as buzz goes.

If you're after an energy drink that doesn't make your mouth feel all fuzzy and gross, you should review Red Eye. I buy their Platinum flavoured drink all the time and there's nothing smoother.

And no, I don't work for them. :P

er, slade, is that directed at me? If so, I'm not 'selling' you anything, nor is it an advertisement. We will never advocate editorial content as such, and this is merely my experiences with the drink.
