The can cracked open with a slight hissing noise, releasing a wave of what smelt like the caramel topping you'd get from McDonalds - strange, because it smelt...warm. It smelled delicious, making my mouth water with it's lusty, bold flavouring. Before taking my first sip of the drink, I peered into the murky depths of the can - the drink actually looks like a mix of coffee and lemon juice. Weird.
Still, the first sip was impressive. Impressive in that it tasted absolutely nothing like coffee and citrus, instead tasting exactly like a Jägerbomb minus the alcohol. The taste was so convincing that I almost swore I could hear too-loud dance music, but as it turns out, Jägerbombs aren't my most favourite drink in the entire world. Unless you're chugging the entire thing in one go, sipping on one isn't the most fun you'll ever have.
The Jägerbomb-eyness kept up through the next few mouthfuls, though it was finally followed by an aftertaste of coffee. However, this coffee tasted like it'd been strained through the toe hairs of a Hobbit; slightly greasy, and wholly unsatisfying. It also doesn't really work with this much sugar, and the cheap softdrink taste didn't help matters much either.
V Black has a texture like a non-stick frying pan, coating the inside of my mouth with what felt like a series of fuzzy growths that made swallowing as enjoyable as rowing in an upturned umbrella down the river Styx. Ok, so maybe it wasn't as hellish as that, but it certainly wasn't the smoothest I've ever tried.
After this odd taste and strange texture, I didn't expect that much from V Black, but I was pleasantly surprised at the buzz that the can granted. It was nowhere near as powerful (nor insane) as the bottle of NOS, but the extra Taurine worked wonders in slamming my brain against my skull just enough to wake it up fully
The taste might not be my most favourite out there, and it might not be the most powerful drink I've ever drunk, but a can of V Black is definitely just the thing when a serious energy boost is needed. Make sure you jump into the gallery of pics to see more of the can, and give this drink a go the next time you're feeling adventurous.
