Verdict:
Great price, hopefully a great case to match.

Gallery: The new Shinobi chassis from BitFenix is a beautiful budget case option, with a unique exterior treatment.

We've been wanting to get our hands on some BitFenix cases ever since we got to drool over the brand at last year's Gamescomm event in Germany. Now, at last, our wish has been granted, thanks to local distie Altech.

They've just started handling the PC case maker, and sent us the new Shinobi case to have a gander at. We'll be looking at it in more detail in our review in an upcoming issue, but for now, we thought it deserved a First Look.

Initially, we're pretty intrigued. It's not a huge case, of course, but for the asking RRP of $79, it's pretty well-specced.

  • Maximum expansion (7 PCI Slots) and compatibility with long graphics cards
  • Clean lines combined with subtle mesh accents create a bold yet understated chassis.
  • BitFenix SofTouch, Shinobi is coated using BitFenix SofTouch Surface Treatment, looks good and protects it from stains and gives a one-of-a-kind feel.
  • Efficient Cooling – Shinobi can be outfitted with up to six 120mm fans or two 140mm fans.
  • Removable Dust Filters – Included with all intakes, these dust filters prevent dust from entering the chassis and make clean up a snap.
  • Water Cooling Ready – Rubberized holes allow for extreme watercooling setups
  • Materials: Steel, Plastic
  • Color (Int/Ext): Black/Black
  • Dimensions (WxHxD)  205 x 460 x 490 mm (ATX Mid Tower)
  • Motherboard Sizes Mini-ITX, mATX, ATX
  • 5.25" Drive Bays  x 3
  • 3.5" Drive Bays x 8 (1 x external, using 5.25” adapter)
  • 2.5" Drive Bays x 1 (using 5.25” adapter)
  • Cooling Front 2 x 120mm ( optional )
  • Cooling Rear 1 x 120mm (included) or 1 x 92mm (optional)
  • Cooling Top  2 x 140mm or 2 x 120mm (optional)
  • I/O 4 x USB2.0, Audio
  • Power Supply PS2 ATX (bottom, multi direction)

And man, that SofTouch rubbery coating is really... cool. We can't... stop... touching it. So check out our gallery for a closer look of your own!

can't find anyone in Aus that is selling the windowed version, only the one with the plain steel side panel. :(

eris- same here. It's a bit strange, because all of the reviewed versions are the Window versions (including the one reviewed in the recent issue of Atomic, but in the review it is just called 'Bitfenix Shinobi').

Everyone should be aware, there are two separate versions of this case:

-Steel side panel version: no window, no toolless drive mounts, comes with one fan
Link:http://www.bitfenix.com/global/en/products/chassis/shinobi/

-Window version: window (duh), toolless drive mounts, comes with two fans
Link:http://www.bitfenix.com/global/en/products/chassis/shinobi-window

To make things more confusing, BitFenix actually mention the Atomic review/award on the pages for both the windowed and non-windowed version.

So, at the present time if you buy a 'BitFenix Shinobi' case in Australia, you are getting the non-window version which is different to the one Atomic reviewed.
