Verdict:
Only benching will tell for sure, but we certainly like this card's heft!

Unboxing: We take a quick peak at ASUS mighty new graphics card, the immense Matrix GTX580 Platinum.

We just had a great little catch-up with the team from ASUS. We talked about their upcoming product line-up, the way the industry is moving, and a whole mess of stuff. But, arguably best of all, they left us some tasty toys to play with, and none are tastier than the new Matrix GTX580 Platinum.

Also, as you'll discover, none are so big!

In fact, for our first look unboxing we've decided to include a 50 cent coin for scale purposes. This really is a big card, but it's also pretty awesome. Not only is it fit for whatever game you want to throw at it, it's also got a lot of custom features for serious overclockers, like reset buttons and voltage measurement points.

And the 1.5GB of RAM doesn't hurt in the "hmm, want one" stakes, either. The card will retail for $799, though ASUS expects the street price to be closer to $700.

So, have a look at our gallery, and keep an eye out for our review in issue 129.
