Al Gore and Mother Nature cringe with fear, but your dual quad core SLI rig will love it.

Short of tossing a nuclear power station into your juice-guzzling boxes, this power supply ought to keep the electricity bills sky-high. Not that we condone the tossing of nuclear reactors, mind you.

It arrives in a small briefcase, which is useful for those times you need to cart around just the PSU.

Chugging out a disgustingly erotic 1100 watts, this unit would probably like to power two quad-core (CPU and GPU) systems. But it can only manage one such system, with a single 24-pin ATX connector (backwards compatible with 20-pin).

Sure, it’ll rip your head clean off if you rudely stare at its monstrous torrent of cabling, but with 10 SATA, three Molex, and four PCI Express power connectors all permanently hanging out the back, it packs less features than the average set of steak knives.

Its creators aren’t idealistic, though, as four SATA-to-molex adaptors have been supplied, along with a molex-to-floppy. An adequate move for an otherwise no-nonsense PSU.

For the price, we have to ask why the lack of useful nonsense, such as a modular cable system and a bar fridge. Luckily it overcomes part of the cable issue, as it includes some Velcro strips which seek to control the tangle.

That said, if you’re looking to create the ultimate 10-SATA-drive file-server and quad-core game machine, in one, this well-hydrated juice box will do nicely. You’re bat-shit insane, but we want your spawn.

In terms of noise, we expected it to go all Steve Ballmer on our arses. Although this isn’t its strong point, with an audible whir, it throws less chairs.

If you stick your ear up to the 80mm intake fan, oddly enough, it sounds like a bubbling fish tank. But that could well have been blood gushing out the slightly quieter 80mm exhaust fan on the opposite side. It’s rather hard to tell.

If expensive is your thing and features mean zip, you’ll probably want 10 to power your 11 kilowatt Beowulf cluster. And we expect to see that in Hotbox.
